Rosco is the third foal born to the wonderful Splitters Dolly – an exceptional mother who consistently produces confident, capable, and beautifully balanced youngsters. His siblings are Heidi and Hamish. We retained Heidi, and Hamish was gelded and sold, where he is now doing an outstanding job as a livestock guardian… with regular celebrity appearances at a local AirBnB where people literally come just to visit him.
Safe to say, the family standard is high.
Rosco, however, decided early on that he was not here to blend in.
Dubbed “The Circus Master”, this little firecracker keeps everyone guessing. One minute he’s a seasoned cougar hunter, the next he’s fraternising with the young ladies of the herd, convinced he’s irresistible.
Moments later, he’s defending his honour in a smack-down worthy showdown with three challengers who dared question his position. Then when it all goes sideways? Rosco may be found sprinting back to his mum to dob in the offenders like a tiny, indignant Karen with hooves.
Underneath the theatrics is a seriously switched-on donkey. Rosco is an exceptional natural protector – alert, observant, and deeply engaged with everything happening around him. He notices everything. He’s bold, clever, and carries the instincts we value so highly in our program.
Like all our foals, Rosco has been raised in a true herd environment and handled from the moment he hit the ground. He understands social structure, boundaries, and people – giving him the foundation to become an outstanding working donkey or herd leader.
Rosco doesn’t just enter a paddock. He arrives.
